Ilulissat Icefjord Sailing.
Ilulissat Icefjord is known for its colossal icebergs, which originate from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. Icebergs can be enormous, some reaching heights equivalent to multi-storey buildings. They flow majestically through the fjord. On a boat trip through Disko Bay, you’ll get up close to these giant ice formations, see their incredible shapes and experience the deep blue color often found in the depths of the ice. Read more about Ilulissat Icefjord.
Sermiut Valley & UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Sermermiut Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been home to various Inuit cultures over the past 4,000 years. During the tour you will be able to explore the remains of the old settlements and gain an insight into how the early inhabitants lived. Of course, the hike offers magnificent views of the Ilulissat Icefjord.
Ilimanaq, one of the oldest settlements in Greenland.
In Ilimanaq you will experience getting close to the locals. The settlement is home to around 50 people, there are no cars and you can reach the experiences on foot. The settlement is located on the south side of the Ilulissat Icefjord, which is why the massive icebergs in Disko Bay are particularly present.
The history in and around Ilimanaq is told vividly as you experience the restoration of buildings, lifestyle and more on a guided tour.
Lunch and dinner at Restaurant Egede.
At Restaurant Egede, your senses will be pampered, and we quote the restaurant here:
“Welcome to Restaurant Egede – a place where history and the present meet in beautiful surroundings. The restaurant is located in an old colonial manager’s house from 1741, one of Greenland’s oldest buildings, which today is completely preserved. The house was originally built by Paul Egede, son of the famous missionary Hans Egede, who was the first missionary to come to Greenland. When you step inside, you can feel the history in every corner. After facilitating Greenland’s first Michelin restaurant, we are now reopening Restaurant Egede with new inspiration.” – Restaurant Egede, Ilimanaq, Greenland.
Tip! Here you can spot whales.
