Accommodation – in a historic hotel.
Your stay at Hotel Hvide Falk comes with a view of icebergs floating by. The hotel has been – and still is today – a link between the local community in Ilulissat and visitors from all over the world.
Icefjord sailing.
Ilulissat Icefjord is known for its colossal icebergs, which originate from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. Icebergs can be enormous, some reaching heights equivalent to multi-storey buildings. They flow majestically through the fjord. On a boat trip through Disko Bay, you’ll get up close to these giant ice formations, see their incredible shapes and experience the deep blue color often found in the depths of the ice.
Every day, millions of tons of ice flow through the Icefjord and develop into the huge icebergs you pass by. Along the way, you’ll be treated to a “drink” consisting of Greenlandic berries and glacier ice.
You’ll sail for about 2 1/2 hours. Along the way, a guide will tell you about the ice sheet and its wildlife. We recommend wearing warm clothes as it is cold on the Icefjord all year round.
Sermiutdalen.
Here you can hike to Sermermiut, which is located near Ilulissat. The Sermermiut Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been home to various Inuit cultures over the past 4,000 years. During the tour you will be able to explore the remains of the old settlements and gain an insight into how the early inhabitants lived. Of course, the hike offers magnificent views of Ilulissat Icefjord
Icebergs crack, calve and fall off. Just listening to it makes you feel small – and lucky to experience it. – Elise Bruun, Travel by Heart – Greenland.
