Accommodation at Hotel Sisimiut.
Staying at Hotel Sisimiut offers views and easy access to the activities and hiking trails outside.
In the restaurant you can taste traditional Greenlandic cuisine with their Greenlandic buffet. Special dishes include mattak – blubber from narwhal or beluga whale, musk ox, reindeer, snow crab and freshly caught prawns.
As guests, you have free access to cross-country skis, sledges and snowshoes, and the staff will help you get customized sizes. You can rent warm winter clothing. On the terrace you can sit in the hot tub with a view of the sky, followed by a sauna to loosen your muscles after a day outdoors
On snowmobile – in the vast hinterland of Sisimiut.
The snowmobile glides effortlessly over the snow, and freedom seems to exist right where you ride. Having speed can be a challenge for some, but once you’ve tried this way of adventuring, we hear from our guests that they want to go again.
You’ll get all the basic knowledge you need to have a safe and fun ride in the countryside. An instructor is with you from start to finish and you’ll receive a certificate of completion at the end.
Dog sledding – the white landscape whizzing by.
Sled dogs are an integral part of life in Sisimiut and are known for their strength and endurance. On the tour you will experience the dogs’ interaction, their speed and their cooperation with the dog sled driver up close.
Before the tour, you’ll be introduced to the dog handlers who will take care of the dogs and help you prepare for the tour in the snowy landscape around Sisimiut. Read more about being a dog sledder.
Winter hiking.
A popular destination for winter hikers in the area around Hotel Sisimiut is Scout Lake . The hike takes you southeast of Sisimiut, with views of the coast and ice formations created by the tides. The terrain may have slight inclines, but is still accessible to most.
For those who want to test their hiking skills in a more challenging way, snowshoe hikes are also available. The tours take you along the mountains south towards glacial moraines, where you can see traces of the glaciers that have shaped the terrain as they moved towards the sea. On the tours, there’s even the chance to spot wildlife such as reindeer, polar foxes and snow hares.
Dog sledding is pure joy.
