Accommodation at Hotel Sisimiut.

Accommodation at Hotel Sisimiut offers views and easy access to mountains and hiking trails. In the restaurant you can taste traditional Greenlandic cuisine with their Greenlandic buffet. Special dishes include mattak – blubber from narwhal or beluga whale, musk ox, reindeer, snow crab and freshly caught prawns. Outside on the terrace, you can sit in the hot tub with a view of the sky, followed by a sauna to loosen your muscles after a day outdoors. Guests have free access to cross-country skis, sledges and snowshoes, and staff will help you get customized sizes.

Winter safari.

Imagine a vehicle reminiscent of a safari car, a muster truck and a snowmobile. In Sisimiut we call it a monster sled, and in this case it will take you to the snow-covered landscape where all you have to do is sit back and take in the view of the wide open spaces, valleys and mountains. Through the hinterland of Sisimiut, you’ll be taken to viewpoints, get close to local wildlife and experience the feel of the Arctic wind in your face in Greenland’s early spring. This tour is open to everyone, all ages and physical abilities. Just remember to dress warmly and from the reception at Hotel Sisimiut they will drive you.

Beginner snowmobiling – in the vast hinterland of Sisimiut.

The snowmobile glides effortlessly over the snow, and freedom seems to exist right where you ride. It can be overwhelming for some, with a light tap on the accelerator and you’re off and running, but once you’ve tried this way of adventuring, we hear from our guests that they’ll want to go again. You will be introduced to the snowmobile, have the opportunity to get to know it, set your own speed and pace so that you feel confident to drive out into Sisimiut’s beautiful snowy landscape. Along the way, stop for a break and “a snack” and enjoy the view of the Davis Strait. For beginners, this tour is a perfect way to learn how to drive a snowmobile: you’ll get all the basic knowledge you need to have a safe and fun ride out in the countryside. An instructor is with you from start to finish and you get a certificate of completion at the end.

Dog sledding – the white landscape whizzing by.

Time is forgotten by the sound of the dogs’ paws on the snow, the wind in your face and the white landscape gliding by. For many, a dog sled ride across the ice, sitting close to loved ones and the white ice and snow rushing by is a must-see. And with good reason. It’s like excitement mixed with the humility of being so small, but still being able to feel the magnificence – all coming together on a dog sled ride. Sled dogs are an integral part of life in Sisimiut and are known for their strength and endurance. On the tour you will experience the dogs’ interaction, their speed and their cooperation with the musher up close. Before the tour, you’ll be introduced to the dog handlers who will take care of the dogs and help you prepare for the tour in the snowy landscape around Sisimiut.

Winter hiking.

With snow under your feet and a clear sky above you, head out on trails that wind through Sisimiut’s landscape, with the opportunity to experience nature that seems untouched here. A popular destination for winter hikers in the area around Hotel Sisimiut is Scout Lake . The hike takes you southeast of Sisimiut, with views of the coast and ice formations created by the tides. The terrain can have slight inclines, but is still accessible for most people. For those who want to test their hiking skills in a more challenging way, snowshoe hikes are also available. The tours take you along the mountains south towards glacial moraines, where you can see traces of the glaciers that have shaped the terrain as they moved towards the sea. On the tours there is even the chance to spot wildlife such as reindeer, polar foxes and snow hares.
